Menopause Q & A

What defines menopause?

Menopause is diagnosed when you’ve gone 12 months straight without a period or ovulation. This process usually occurs between the ages of 40 and 55, with the average age of menopause being 51.

Not all women experience symptoms associated with menopause. But, the fluctuations in the hormones of estrogen and progesterone can cause symptoms that interfere with your quality of life and comfort. If you’re struggling with symptoms, call the office of Optimum Women’s Care, PLLC for an appointment.

What are the indications that I am in menopause?

You may experience any number of symptoms in the few years before you reach menopause, a period known as perimenopause.

Indications that your hormones are shifting include:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Loss of libido
  • Sleep disruptions
  • Painful intercourse
  • Mood swings
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Problems with bladder control

Menopause can also bring on unexplained weight gain, fatigue, and brain fog.

How is menopause medically supported?

There’s no treatment for menopause — it’s a natural progression of your fertility. But Dr. Magsino does offer menopause support to make you as comfortable as possible as you transition.

Hormone replacement therapy can balance out your erratic hormones, which are responsible for your discomfort, and may be delivered via cream, pellets inserted under the skin, injections, or pills. The method of delivery and dosage depends on your symptoms, your health history, and your personal preferences.

Dr. Magsino can also help you with lifestyle changes that include dietary changes and exercise to ease symptoms. Other prescription medications can help with mood shifts and depression that occur with menopause. If you suffer vaginal symptoms, including dryness and thinning tissue, Ultra Femme 360™ is a noninvasive thermal energy device that stimulates collagen production in your vaginal tissue to restore strength and tightness.

As you progress through menopause, well-woman exams are still important. Dr. Magsino can help you manage other health changes that occur alongside menopause. These include osteoporosis, heart disease, and urinary incontinence.

If you’re nearing menopause or experiencing symptoms, seek the support of Dr. Magsino at Optimum Women's Care, PLLC. Call the office for a one-on-one session or book your appointment online.
